Artist Statement

It fills me with joy to take raw materials and to bring into existence an object that is like not other in this world.

Still A prairie boy at heart, I have a love of nature and the outdoors.  I am also fascinated with biology and anatomy.   these interests have guided and influenced my art work and sculptures.  I find inspiration in natural textures, shapes and forms that I have experienced first hand.  Animals, Plants, microscopic organisms and other organic structures that I have encountered by either being outside with nature or in a lab or in a book, can be seen in my work.  As I create a sculpture, this understanding and enchantment with nature is expressed in my work.

While, generally, my pieces are influenced by the natural world and are a celebration and expression of the beauty of life and the  world around us, at times, I am influenced by dark, fantasy and surreal art.  I have an allure for the mysteries of life and for shapes and forms that are unfamiliar and foreign.  I sometimes like to make work that challenges our perception of reality and stimulates thoughts about what exists or might exist outside of our normal everyday lives.  This line of sculptures and art are designed to invoke a reaction and create dialogue about life and the world we live in.
